Council warn residents of cold-call scammers

This from the council in their own words. Ed

We are aware that two men recently cold-called a resident’s house in Wootton claiming they were working for the council, stating they had received a complaint about a tree on the property which needed cutting back.

The men then insisted on being paid large amounts of cash for the work. They were driving a silver Ford Transit.

Not council workers
These men do not work for the council. All our staff carry photo ID and we would not cold-call a house to undertake tree work.

Our trading standards service and Hampshire Police are currently investigating the incident.

If you have been contacted on your doorstep by anyone offer this work or similar type of work, please contact our trading standards service on (01983) 823371.
