Duke of Edinburgh Awards Students to Hand Over Large Charity ChequeThree students, who have already achieved gold Duke of Edinburgh awards, will present the Earl Mountbatten Hospice with a large cheque following a year of fundraising.

Carla Fisher, 23, Alice Burton, 22, and Edward Gentry, 23, raised £3,000 as part of the volunteering section of their gold awards.

Over the last year, the trio have each taken part in one of a variety of activities to raise the cash. These have included a sponsored swim, hosting fundraising meals, selling pancakes and jewellery and rowing the distance of the Solent on a rowing machine onboard a ferry.

Stepping further afield
One of the girls, Carla, took part in a charity trek across the Great Wall of China.

The money will be presented to the Hospice at 1900 on Thursday 16 December at Newport Youth Club.
