Geography expert chairs online talk addressing sewage issues with local activists

Next Tuesday (23rd April 2024) sees a free online event, organised by the Royal Geographical Society, that features three Islanders talking about the issue of sewage pollution.

Sewage pollution: our problem, our solution
This discussion explores the issue of sewage pollution from two sides of the issue, a water company and Surfers Against Sewage, revealing how working together can lead to positive action and local solutions that can be replicated in many local communities.

This presentation describes how local activism and a Southern Water Pathfinder Project have come together to find solutions and generate new, positive interactions within the Island community.

The speakers
The event will be chaired by Mary Edwards, who was born and raised in Ryde, has travelled and worked around the world, and is a Professor of Geography at the University of Southampton.

Speakers include Chani Courtney, Volunteer Regional Representative for Surfers Against Sewage, who has worked tirelessly to raise awareness about sewage pollution, and Keith Herbert, the Pathfinder Lead for Southern Water.
