Hard work paying off for primary school

The outcome of a recent Ofsted visit to Newport CofE Primary School has been released today (Tuesday).

The school, which exited Special Measures in May this year, was found to be taking effective action to tackle the areas requiring improvement.

Changes to staffing
The report highlights the changes to the staffing, with an experienced headteacher seconded to the school for the next three terms. A deputy headteacher and a pastoral leader have been appointed, whilst one member of the teaching staff has left the school and two are leaving the school at the end of this term, including one senior leader.

The school’s improvement plan is judged as “coherent and well judged” and the school has been praised for tackling “inconsistencies in teaching and leadership robustly through the effective use of performance management arrangements” as well as improving communication with parents.

Positive flavour
Headteacher, Jacquelyn Pick, is particularly pleased with the positive flavour of the report which reflects the hard work of staff this term.

Chair of Governors Simon Richards said,

“This report is acknowledgement of the continuous improvement in the school through the hard work and dedication of everyone involved – children, staff, parents and governors. We continue to be clear about what needs to be done to ensure that every child in our school achieves their very best in everything they do.”
