The hop picking at Ventnor Botanic Garden will continue tomorrow.
We were unable to take part, but took time out for a short while today to pop down and see what was happening.
The sun had disappeared and grey skies were overhead, but it didn’t stop the merry band of hop pickers.
The smell as we walked down the rows of vines was beautiful (very good for insomnia apparently) and it was explained that two types were being grown, First Gold and Boadicea.
‘Ventnor Botanic Garden Tropical Ale’, the brew made from last year’s hops, was on hand for refreshment. The smooth light ale, must’ve been a great treat for the hop pickers during their breaks.
The team at the Botanic Garden need more volunteers on Thursday (8th), so if you’re able to spare an hour or two, why not consider going down to help out. The hops need to leave the Island on Sunday to be dried out before returning to Yates Brewery for brewing.
