The Isle of Wight is to welcome HRH The Princess Royal for a three-day visit in August.
On Tuesday 9 August, HRH The Princess Royal will visit the organisers of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week at Regatta House where she will receive an overview of the inner workings of the regatta.
This will include a visit to the event’s technology partner, Next Generation Results, as well as some time with the regatta Course Setters who determine the race courses for the fleet each day.
Prize-giving reception
HRH will then attend a prize giving reception at the Royal Yacht Squadron followed by the Transat Dinner which will be attended by flag officers, race officials and boat owners.
On Wednesday 10 August, HRH will watch young sailors taking part in the Royal Yachting Association’s OnBoard Festival from afloat before going ashore to meet the competitors and attend a prize giving ceremony where HRH is expected to present prizes to the winning youngsters.
Visit to new lifeboat station
The Princess Royal will also visit Bembridge RNLI lifeboat station where she will meet supporters and view a new lifeboat which she will officially name following a service of dedication by the Bishop of Portsmouth.
A plaque will be unveiled to commemorate Her Royal Highness’s visit.
The Princess Royal will then visit the Save the Children shop in Ryde where she will meet volunteers and view the range of goods on sale. HRH will also meet the retail manager and shop leader who will provide a briefing on the shop’s fundraising activity to date.
Stopping off at UKSA
The Princess Royal will also visit UKSA in Cowes where she will view recently renovated buildings and a new children’s room which has been decorated by local artists. HRH will meet representatives from Cowes Sailability who are based at UKSA before viewing Gipsy Moth IV and receiving an update on the charity’s progress with community partnerships, education and work with youth and disabled groups.
On Wednesday evening HRH will attend a reception on board THV Galatea for those associated with the work of Trinity House in the Solent area.
On Thursday 11 August Her Royal Highness will unveil a plaque to officially name Trinity Landing in Cowes before heading to the Royal Yacht Squadron to start the XOD Centenary Race.
