When we heard the sad story from this VB reader, we were happy to put out this appeal for her. Image is of a bike similar to Tamsyns. Ed
I am a very poor student nurse studying here at Southampton University. Last night (29/01/2011) someone heartlessly and selfishly stole my bike. I rode it to Southampton Hospital at the start of my shift at 7am, securely locked it up to find it gone at the end of my shift at 8pm. I am heart broken and gutted!
Had to walk back from Southampton Hospital
I just want to let the culprit know that this was my lifeline to do my course and to get back to my home on the Isle of Wight.
I had just finished a very long emotional shift and felt so disheartened to realise my transport home had been stolen and I didn’t have enough money to get home by any other means than walk.
It was freezing cold and so very frightening late at night and I felt like crying all the way home.
Who would steal from a student nurse?
As a student nurse I have to try to get from one placement to another. I do not have a car and the bursary doesn’t stretch far past paying the rent, so the cost of replacing the bike that was stolen is hopeless.
I think there have to be some pretty cruel people out there who have to lower themselves to steal from a poor nurse at a hospital.
I worked long and hard during the summer, before I started my training, to save enough money to buy a good bike. This bike is my lifeline and enabled me to do my course and to be able to get to my placements/hospital.
What does it look like?
My bike that was stolen was a women’s GTW Avalanche 1.0 mountain bike mainly grey and black with pink detailing of a flowery pattern.
It was only just over a year old and my helmet and chain went missing too. The Frame no is F070717660
Please, please if anyone knows of the whereabouts of my bike I would be extremely grateful!
