Spartan ZK-ARH

Isle of Wight Aero Museum plans to be discussed at launch event

Launch Meeting for Isle of Wight Aviation and Heritage Centre

A launch meeting, jointly organised by the Isle of Wight Flying Club, Royal Aeronautical Society, and Britten Norman Aircraft Preservation Society (BNAPS), is set for the evening of 13th April in Shanklin.

John Kenyon, who will be outlining his vision for an IW Aero Museum and associated Heritage Centre, is coordinating the list of invited attendees.

This first meeting is for the aviation community on the Island. However, anyone with an interest in aviation is welcome to attend provided they call or email John first, to receive an official invitation. John has stressed that this meeting is NOT open to the general public. Attendance is strictly limited by available seating.

The return of the Spartan 3-Seater?
Dr Geoff Witt will also make a presentation on the attempt to return to the Island, the only Cowes built Spartan 3-Seater, which is still flying anywhere in the world today.

Manufactured in 1932, this is a unique opportunity to get Spartan AK-ARH back from New Zealand. If this bid is successful, it could take pride of place in an IW Aero Museum.

The Launch Meeting on April 13th is to assess the desire to have an Aviation Museum here on the Island. If there is sufficient enthusiasm, then more meetings can be arranged for the general public, in other parts of the Island.
