Isle of Wight businesses can now support red squirrel conservation with a new kitemark scheme

Last updated:

The Isle of Wight is a nationally important stronghold for red squirrels and they are a draw for tourists, some of whom have seeing one is on their bucket list.

Local businesses often use them in their logo or name, but the charity, Red Squirrel Trust, does not benefit.  If it wasn’t for the work of the Red Squirrel Trust, raising the profile of red squirrels, this might not work as well.

Island Biscuits has successfully contributed for years by donating a few pence from each box of red squirrel biscuits sold. Their average donation is £500 per annum.  In 2023 their donation helped fund a children’s book, so of course their name is in the book.

New kitemark scheme
On National Red Squirrel Appreciation Day (Sunday 21st January  2024) the Red Squirrel Trust will mark the day by launching a new kitemark scheme.

Red Squirrel Trust Kite Mark

This is for our mutually benefit as the businesses signing up get to use our kitemark in return for raising money.

It’s up to the business, but maybe by holding an annual fundraising event for the Trust or commission from a red squirrel related product (or another product if you wish).

What you’ll get
In return the trust will give you the right to use our kitemark on your premises, website and selected product.

Also advertising for your business through:

  •  Your name on our website
  •  Your name and product on our Facebook page
  •  Recognition in our annual newsletter
  •  A press release and cheque presentation if you wish
