Isle of Wight JSA Claimant Numbers Fall Again (Updated)

Figures for unemployed claimants came out this morning which show that 3,303 people on the Isle of Wight were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in April 2012.

Unemployment Figures RiseBased on figures released by the Office for National Statistics, this is a welcome fall of 583 since March, which showed 3,886 JSA claimants and down 254 from April 2011 (3,557).

That means 3.9% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 1.3% more than the rest of the South East (2.6%), and just 0.1% less than the whole of the UK (4.0%).

Unfilled jobcentre vacancies increases
The number of unfilled jobcentre vacancies has increased substantially from 227 last month to 379 – 153 extra. Year-on-year comparisons show 67 more available now from last April’s 312.

The number of JSA claimants per unfilled jobcentre vacancy have halved from 17.1 last month to 8.7 this month. It’s also looks positive when compared to a year ago, with there being nearly 1 less JSA claimant per unfilled jobcentre vacancy which was at 9.5 last April.
