flood alert sign

Isle of Wight roads still affected by heavy rain: Island Roads roundup

Heavy rain meant it was another busy night for Island Roads.

Though the worst of the weather has passed, the network remains wet in many locations so motorists are advised to drive with extra caution.

Flood warning signs
Overnight, flood warning signs – meaning the sections were passable with care – were put out at the following locations:

  • Binstead Road, Ryde;
  • Fairlee Road, Newport;
  • Marlborough Road, Ryde; and
  • Sandown Road, Lake.

Sandbags delivered
At the request of the IW council’s emergency planning department, sandbags were delivered to Nicholas Close, Brading and Lugley Street car park in Newport.

Wroxall landslip
We are currently investigating a landslip that obstructed part of the road in St John’s Road, Wroxall.

Roads re-opened
Due to flooding, Briddlesford Road and Avenue Road in Sandown were closed.  Both have now re-opened.

Moreton Road
Moreton Road in Brading will be closed as a through road – there will still be access to properties outside of the flooded section which is near Perowne Way.
