Letter: Cllr Ward said Prince Andrew ‘more worthy’ of being Duke of Edinburgh. Is he really worthy?

News OnTheWight always welcomes a Letter to the Editor to share with our readers – unsurprisingly they don’t always reflect the views of this publication. If you have something you’d like to share, get in touch and of course, your considered comments are welcome below.

Cllr Ian Ward is probably the only person in the country that thinks Prince Andrew has any credibility. In his own words on his public Facebook page (see in full below):

“in my humble opinion, Prince Andrew is more worthy of filling his Fathers shoes!”

Let us not forget that amongst other things, including his friendship with sex trafficker paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew was accused of sexually assaulting Virginia Giuffre. This was when she was underage in the US. Although of course, he denied the accusations.

Stripped of his military titles
Yet, he paid Ms Giuffre a multimillion-pound settlement to stop the case going to court. Prince Andrew was also stripped of his military titles and asked to step down as a working Royal.

He is hardly ‘worthy’ as Cllr Ward suggests. In fact I would argue he is worthy of nothing.

Questionable judgement
I am at pains to understand how Cllr Ward can even begin to believe that Prince Andrew is ‘worthy’ of anything other than being pushed out to pasture.

If there is any judgement to be questioned, it is Cllr Ward’s.

Do his associates share the idiotic views
Ward is staunch Conservative, sitting on various boards in council and in armed forces circles. Plus some associated charities.

I wonder if those that support him or associate with him, share such idiotic views? Is he speaking on their behalf, the behalf of the Conservative Party or simply as a member of Isle of Wight council?

Perhaps airing some views of the residents he represents? Or is it his own misguided, offensive view? I’d be most interested to find out.

This behaviour needs to be challenged
Perhaps we live in a time where although we have so-called strong women at the top, they are in fact nothing more than puppets for the grey haired men. Maybe this already has been discreetly ignored and buried?

By letting this pass I would be accepting that this behaviour is the norm. It is not and it needs to be called out.

Ian Ward on Prince Andrew

He said it and he believed it
I note that his post has been deleted. Perhaps by him or by Facebook. The fact is, he said it and he believed it. Many will have seen it and it will have angered them.

To you I say this. Unite again. Spread the message, spread the word that this sort of vile drivel will not be tolerated.

News OnTheWight has written to Cllr Ward to explain why he feels that Prince Andrew is a worthy contender for Duke of Edinburgh, given that he has been stripped of his military titles and royal duties, accused of sexual assault and battery of a minor, and paid the defendant millions of pounds to avoid going to court?
