Lifeboat crew rescue kite surfer’s parachute

Thanks to Mark for this latest update from the The Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat . Ed

The Sandown & Shanklin Independent lifeboat was asked to launch today by the Solent Coastguard after a report of a kite surfer’s parachute was seen blown through the bay at 12.17pm.

They’d had five 999 calls from the public and a call from the kite surfer informing the Coastguard he’d lost the parachute whilst coming into shore, but that he was safe.

We picked it up one mile off our station and brought it ashore where the kite surfer was very happy to see it returned.

It was great that he’d informed the Coastguard that he had lost it, because due to the amount of people that’d dialled 999, we could have been out searching for a casualty for a while.
