Minghella Film Festival: Some Tickets Still Available For Opening Night Gala

If you’re a regular VB reader, it won’t have escaped your notice that the third annual Minghella Film Festival opens tonight on the Isle of Wight.

Shot from The EagleThe bright lights of Newport will be welcoming Festival-goers and stars of the screen to the Gala drinks reception and screening of The Eagle.

The feature length film from acclaimed director Kevin Macdonald (State of Play, The Last King of Scotland, Touching the Void) won’t be released in the UK until 25 March, so tonight is your chance to see it before the rest of the nation.

The film was produced by close friend of Anthony Minghella, Duncan Kenworthy. As 2010 festival-goers will remember, Duncan (Love Actually, Notting Hill, Four Weddings and a Funeral) gave an excellent talk last year.

What’s on offer
The evening kicks off with a drinks reception from 7pm at The William Coppin (next door to Cineworld), with the screening taking place at 8pm and a post-screening party back at the William Coppin, where an eight-piece band will have you dancing into the early hours.

A few tickets are still available, so give Quay Arts (822490) a call pronto to make sure you secure your place at the opening event.

Anthony Minghella’s sister and Minghella Film Festival founder, Gioia Minghella, said: “We are proud to announce our third wonderful programme, which manages once again to achieve our signature blend – so reminiscent of my brother! – of rare and true intimacy with artistic aspiration that would grace any Film Festival in the world. Over the weekend of the festival, it will be possible to find some of the most respected works for cinema today alongside previews of exciting new films, to have enormous fun whilst generating meaningful funds for really worthwhile causes. I know Anthony would have been delighted.”

See you there!
