New traffic regulations for Cowes and East Cowes go to Cabinet for approval

Councillors are to review the results of the first phase in a long-running Island-wide review of traffic regulations.

After reviewing suggestions from local people and analysing historic collision data, the Isle of Wight Council published proposed minor changes to parking in District 1 (Cowes, East Cowes, Northwood and Gurnard) back in May 2021, and invited local people to comment.

Feedback for and against changes
During the consultation period between 14th May 2021 and 18th June 2021 the council asked for feedback from local people, and there were a number of comments, both in favour of the changes and against them.

Northwood and Gurnard
All the proposals in Northwood went ahead in November this year, because there were no objections.

After further consideration of the small number of objections, all proposals in Gurnard are expected to be implemented next week.

Cowes and East Cowes
The objections for Cowes and East Cowes are going to be reviewed by senior councillors at December’s cabinet meeting (see report) next week before any decision is taken.

Depending on the outcome of the review, any agreed changes for Cowes and East Cowes could be put into place early next year.

The review process will be rolling out to other areas of the Island in due course.
