People’s Emergency Briefing film comes to Freshwater as part of Biosphere Festival

Last updated:

A community film screening and discussion event is taking place in Freshwater as part of the Isle of Wight Biosphere Festival.

The event will show the People’s Emergency Briefing, a 45-minute film featuring nine leading UK scientists and experts presenting the latest evidence on how the cost of living, food security, extreme weather and health affect everyday life in the UK.

The film draws on the National Emergency Briefing held in Westminster, which received coverage from ITV, Channel 4 and The Times, and includes contributions from naturalist Chris Packham, businesswoman Deborah Meaden, and a range of voices from across the country.

Local discussion to follow
After the screening, organisers will open the floor for a conversation about what the issues raised mean for life on the Isle of Wight, and what local action might look like.

Organisers note that many previous attendees have described feeling a sense of optimism after viewing the film, despite the seriousness of the facts presented, with audiences reporting that confronting the challenges together helped them see a pathway forward.

Further details about the film are available on the website, and the Isle of Wight Biosphere Festival website lists other screenings taking place across the Island.

Booking and practicalities
Tickets are free, though organisers strongly advise booking in advance.

The film carries a recommendation for audiences aged 16 and over.

Paid parking is available at Moa Place Car Park, with limited free parking on nearby residential streets.
