Sight for Wight Short Story Competition returns this autumn

It’s that time of the year again when budding writers are invited to enter their short stories into the Sight For Wight Short Story Writing Competition.

Started 13 years ago by Sight for Wight patrons and international crime writing authors, RC Bridgestock, the theme this year is The Sea.

Hollyhead: Raising funds and recognising talent
CEO Lisa Hollyhead said,

“As we do each year, the theme is deliberately broad to allow people to interpret it as they wish.

“The competition is not only run in order to provide vital funds for Sight for Wight, but also to recognise the wide ranging writing talent here on our Island.”

Cane: Budding writers can become published authors
Chris Cane, Marketing and Events Manager said,

“This is an exciting opportunity for budding Island writers to become published authors with their stories recorded by one of our celebrity readers.

His most successful project has been the creation of the ITV network comedy-drama series Doc Martin, starring Martin Clunes, which began in 2004.

The main character’s surname, Ellingham, is an anagram of the Minghella family name.

Dominic is the brother of Edana Minghella who sadly died earlier this year.  Edana was a supporter of our competition and read winning stories for five years.

Mark Simmons is a stand up comedian, constantly on the rise and since being in the finals of several noteworthy competitions, such as Leicester Mercury Comedian of The Year, So You Think You’re Funny and the NATY Award.

He has been in high demand for the top UK comedy clubs, such as Glee, Manford’s Comedy Club, Comedy Central and Just The Tonic, headlining the majority of them.

Also, he has supported Seann Walsh, Rob Beckett and Rob Brydon on their national tours, as well as one off shows supporting Michael McIntyre and Jack Dee.  He is currently on tour with his own show, ‘Quip Off The Mark’.

The Cher McQueen actress said goodbye to the soap this year after a drama-filled two years and has aspirations of making it as a singer.

She often shares home videos of her cover versions, from Kings of Leon’s, Sex on Fire, to Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles tracks.  Last year she returned to the stage for the first time in 18 months and fell in love with live performance all over again.

Don’t miss the deadline
The closing date for the competition is 5pm on 11th November 2022.
