The Chimney Slaves: Haunting production to highlight history of child chimney sweeps

A haunting new theatrical production will bring the disturbing history of Britain’s child chimney sweeps to audiences on the Isle of Wight in November.

The Chimney Slaves offers theatre-goers just two opportunities to witness this atmospheric production, with performances scheduled for 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday 1st November 2025 at St Catherine’s Church in Ventnor.

The small-scale show features a compact cast alongside musicians who guide audiences through what organisers describe as “an eerie journey” into the harsh realities faced by child sweeps in Britain’s past.

Musical and literary elements enhance historical narrative
The production combines stirring music with beautiful poetry and prose to tell the story of these young workers.

Theatre-goers will experience the full details and horrors of life as a child sweep through this intimate performance format.

The show carries a recommended age rating of 12 and above, reflecting the serious nature of its historical subject matter.
