Town council sets aside £70k for public loos

Thanks to Mayor of Ryde, Councillor Roi Milburn for this latest news from Ryde Town Council. Ed

Ryde Town Council is pleased to confirm that at a meeting on 7 March it took a major decision to ensure the continued provision of public conveniences in Ryde.

In what is planned as a seamless transfer of responsibility within the busy Easter holiday period, Ryde Town Council will take over the public conveniences at St. John’s Road, Western Esplanade, Eastern Esplanade and in Appley Park on 1 April.

£70,000 set aside
The cost of maintaining the buildings (cleaning, locking and unlocking, utility bills, insurances, routine maintenance etc) does not come cheap, and £70,000 has been set aside in the Town Council’s budget for this purpose in the coming year.

Ryde Mayor, Councillor Roi Milburn, said

“The Town Council recognises the significant budget pressures facing the Isle of Wight Council but is determined that provision of those facilities expected in the Island’s foremost gateway town will continue. Residents and visitors alike will see that Ryde is open for business and prepared to meet the challenges.”
