Walk the Wight: Another successful year and a very special one for Jojo and Will

Well done to all the walkers who took part in Sunday’s Walk the Wight. The annual walk is Mountbatten‘s largest and most important fundraiser and saw thousands walking across the Isle of Wight in the glorious sunshine.

There were three walks to choose from: The main walk from Bembridge to Alum Bay (26.5 miles), Carisbrooke to Alum Bay (14 miles), or the flat walk from Sandown to Newport (8 miles). Not forgetting the Schools’ Walk of four miles from Freshwater Bay up Tennyson Down and across to Alum Bay.

A very happy couple
Tennyson Down played a very special part in the walk for Londoners Jojo and Will, as it was the place that Will decided to pop the question.

Jojo has taken part in Walk the Wight for several years with friends who live on the Island. This was Will’s first year, but is probably going to be the most special he ever does.

Choosing the right moment
Finding the right place to pop the question was a challenge for Will. He’d kept asking Jojo what her favourite part of the walk was, but her reply was consistent, “All of it!” she would repeat.

Will chose the top of Tennyson Down as the place for that special moment, and making sure there were no mishaps, such as dropping the box with the ring in it along the way, he’d fitted a tracker to it.

Jojo said yes and went on to complete the walk once again, but this time taking home a medal and an engagement ring!

See you next year
Congratulations to the lovely couple.

We expect this won’t be Will’s first and last Walk the Wight.

See you next year guys!
