Wet Leg, the Isle of Wight band that rose to global fame with their first single, Chaise Longue, in June 2021, are back!
News from the band has been scarce over the last year, as the band took a well deserved rest following several years of touring.
On Monday, the band posted to social media, saying,
“Weβre so back.”
Excitement and anticipation
The news of the band’s return has been met with excitement around the world, and anticipation is high for new music from the band which features Islanders Rhian Teasdale, Hester Chambers, Ellis Durand, Henry Holmes and Josh Mobaraki.
A 1990s transformation
The Wet Leg website has undergone a 1990s transformation, encouraging fans to share their email addresses in order to get latest updates.
Not only that, but they seem to have deleted all previous posts from the official band Instagram account, leaving just one post showing the band surrounding a man dressed up as a goblin. He looks vaguely familiar, but we can’t quite place him.
The director Iris Luz is tagged on the photo, which could mean we’ll be treated to a new music video directed by her soon.
New music?
In April 2022, one week on from the launch of their debut self-titled album, the album made it to the top of the UK album chart.
Could the timing of Wet Leg’s return be connected to the release of a new album next month?
The band are already booked for several festival slots over the coming year, including Glastonbury and Green Man Festival in the UK and the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, USA.
Update: New music!
No sooner had we published the article than some new Wet Leg music appeared on social media.
A global sensation
Wet Leg’s rapid rise to fame in 2021 has seen to band go on to be nominated for a plethora of awards, picking up two Grammys and a Brit Award. They also clinched Songwriters of the Year at The Ivors and secured a third Grammy win with the Depeche Mode remix.
Rhian and Hester have been featured on the front cover of Vogue magazine and many more. The band appeared on Later with Jools Holland, the Jonathan Ross Show, as well as Rhian speaking on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.
The list goes on
The band were immortalised in the 2024 edition of Just Dance. A portrait of Rhian and Hester by photographer Sadie Catt was on display at the National Portrait Gallery. And in 2024, Rhian and Hester became stars of a new animated series on childrenβs TV channel, CBeebies.
It was a very busy year with Rhian also collaborating with Orlando Weeks from The Maccabees to release the single, Dig.
As well as this, the band have been spotted at countless fashion shows around the world over the past three-four years, with members being dressed by the likes of Gucci.
Domino Records must have been chuffed to pieces with their signing.
We’ll let you know as soon as any new music from Wet Leg is announced.
