Sleeping rough:

Winter night shelter now open for the Island’s homeless

This in from the council, in their own words. Ed

The centre, manned by volunteers from the Church of the Victorious Life, will operate from 9 December until further notice, offering shelter overnight between 7pm and 8am.

Those who arrive before 9.30pm each night can get a hot meal – and doors at the centre will close at 11pm. Unfortunately there can be no admittance after this time, as the volunteers manning the shelter need to sleep before their day jobs the following day.

Food is provided at the shelter as well as bedding, use of washing facilities (showers) and the facility to wash and dry clothes.

Anyone who is street homeless can access this free service, although no drugs, alcohol or abusive behaviour will be permitted on the premises and people will be asked to leave if they do not adhere to this.

Shelter users and those referring people to the shelter should be aware that this is an overnight facility only.
