Umbrella Tree

The East Cowes Umbrella Tree was planted over 100 years ago by Queen Victoria’s roads manager.

In January 2018, the Isle of Wight council (via Island Roads) said they would be removing the tree and replacing it with a 3ft Birch tree as the Umbrella Tree was infected with fungus and dangerous.

The £10m public liability insurance is in place and the 'Friends of the Umbrella Tree Ltd' has been officially formed. The Friends are now waiting for the Isle of Wight council to respond.
