British Empire Medals awarded to Isle of Wight wildlife heroes

Tuesday (17th October) was a very special day for Jacquie Wilson and Angela Hewitt when the Lord Lieutenant presented them both with British Empire Medals at Naturezones Wildlife Education Trust in Blackwater.

These are two of the medals awarded in the King’s first Birthday Honours’  list.

For services to conservation and education
Angela, founder of Naturezones Wildlife Education Trust received the BEM medal for her services to conservation and education. She said,

“It’s a huge honour and a shock, I am just overwhelmed.”

For services to wildlife rehabilitation
Jacquie, Founder Isle of Wight Hedgehog Rescue received her BEM Medal for services to wildlife rehabilitation. She said,

“Like Angela I feel very honoured to receive this award.

“We were so happy to have the presentation at Naturezones because it meant we could have our volunteers with us.

“We could not manage without them.”
