Cllr Daryll Pitcher resigns from committees, but remains as a councillor

Cllr Daryll Pitcher has resigned from all committee positions on the Isle of Wight council following his conviction earlier this week for historical rape offences.

He gave his apologies for his absence at tonight’s full council meeting, where the Monitoring Officer from Isle of Wight council confirmed that,

“Cllr Pitcher has resigned all his committee positions with the Isle of Wight council with effect on 21st February 2023.”

Found guilty
Cllr Pitcher was found guilty by a jury (11-1) of two counts of rape, which took place at some point between June 1990 and March 1992.

News OnTheWight wrote to Cllr Pitcher on Tuesday to ask whether he planning to remain as an IW councillor, but he has yet to respond.

No powers
The Isle of Wight council told News OnTheWight they have no powers to remove the councillor from his role and would not comment further as Cllr Pitcher was yet to to be sentenced (on 12th April).

Cllr Joe Robertson, leader of the Isle of Wight Conservative Group, called yesterday evening for the leader to ask Cllr Pitcher to step down from Committees and not attend public meetings. News OnTheWight wrote to Cllr Peacey-Wilcox to ask whether she had done so, but she failed to respond.
