We went to the Isle of Wight Council Scrutiny Committee on Monday to hear reports by Cllr Allan Wells, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, reporting on the Local Safeguarding Children Board.
Ofsted had judged a Serious Case Review as “inadequate,” (background) and the Scrutiny Committee were keen to find out the reasons why.
After the “Baby P” case, Cllr Deborah Gardiner had requested a Independent Inquiry in November to check that Island children were having the best protection that they could.
Cllr Gardiner says that the IWC blocked this and has been frustrated and concerned with secrecy.
We caught up with Cllr Deborah Gardiner after the meeting to find out her views of what had gone on. [audio:http://otw-audio.s3.amazonaws.com/deborah-gardiner-post-scrutiny-scr.mp3]
