Cllr Vanessa Churchman appointed to the Council of Europe

Cllr Vanessa Churchman has been appointed to the Council of Europe (not to be confused with the European Union).

She will be one of 18 delegates appointed by the UK Government to represent Local Government interests at the Council.

The Council of Europe was set up after the war by, among others Winston Churchill, to help rebuild Europe and to encourage Local Government across Europe to promote democracy and share common aims and objectives.

She will represent the Independent Group of the Local Government Association and will be travel to Strasbourg in October to attend the plenary session of the Council.

Among those subjects to be discussed will be a report recently produced to stop the violence and sexual abuse against children the length and breadth of Europe.
