A specialist in Stakeholder Engagement and Community Development has been appointed as the new Chair of the Isle of Wight Whole Systems Integrated Redesign (WISR) Board, the Chairman of the Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group (IWCCG) Dr John Rivers announced yesterday (26th January 2016).

David Newton, Senior Partner at Corporate Impact – an organisation specialising in improving public services through community engagement – and Lay Advisor to the IWCCG on Patient and Public Involvement will take up the position of Lay Chair of WISR Board from Tuesday.

David’s background
David moved to Cowes with his family 14 years ago, following an earlier career in communications and fundraising which led him to become the global Community Affairs Manager for the Body Shop International.

After that he headed-up charities on the Island and mainland before setting-up his own business. David will now play a critical role in ensuring that the citizens and communities of the Isle of Wight are leading and shaping the way in which health and care services are improved.

The start of the WISR Programme
The appointment of the WISR Lay Chair and the procurement of national expertise in organisational change from KPMG and access to national clinical and non-clinical advisors in providing the best services to local people marks the beginning of the implementation of the WISR programme.

This scheme is being supported by a Government grant which the Island has received as part of national NHS programme to transform the way health and care is delivered across England.

My Life a Full Life
The WISR is a core element of the ground-breaking My Life a Full Life programme, which is one of the 50 projects across England developing new ways of providing care under the national New Care Models programmes. The new models developed, will act as blueprints for the future of the health and care system in England.

Besides delivering benefits for people in the near future, the project will also help ensure health and care provision is sustainable for the long-term given the fact that more and more people are living longer, often with complex needs, at a time when NHS and local authority funding is struggling to keep pace with demand.

A highly experienced and well respected expert
John Rivers, Chairman of the Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group, congratulating David on his appointment said:

“We are delighted to have someone of David’s calibre on board. He is a highly experienced and well respected expert in community and patient engagement with a career spanning over 25 years.

“His appointment will strengthen the WISR work programme by ensuring it is focused on the needs of citizens and communities. His arrival is timely as it comes at the point at which we are working with national experts in change management to move into the implementation phase of the work.

“I am looking forward to working with him so that we can drive forward further improvements across the local health and wellbeing system.”
