Doorbell ringing late at night and food being thrown at people’s houses has sparked concern in an Isle of Wight coastal community.
Island First Network representative Jules Hayward told Nettlestone and Seaview Parish Council on Tuesday (21st September 2026) of multiple local disturbances over the summer.
Doorbell harassment and food-throwing
She said the doorbell buzzing had “felt quite harassing” for single occupants and that eggs, fruit and vegetables were launched at homes on Rowantree Drive.
Trouble at the Haven
Councillor Hayward said,
“There were also some issues up at the Haven, there was some disruption going on there with some young people.
“Also, I spoke to the Jolly Fryer fish and chip van this week when I was picking up my fish and chips.
“They were saying in 30 plus years of business, they’ve never had to lock their cab in their van, but they did have to last week following some quite threatening behaviour by some young people.”
Police building a case
Councillor Hayward highlighted information gathering, including camera footage, and has been in contact with PC Andrew Emery over the issue. The councillor added,
“He would like to build a case to ensure that they understand the behaviour’s unacceptable.”
