Hale common bus stops

Temporary traffic lights at Hale Common for three weeks of bus stop works

Further work to make bus stops between Arreton and Lake safer and more accessible will begin later this month.

Island Roads, working on behalf of Isle of Wight Council, will upgrade the bus stops on both sides of the A3056 outside Leslie’s Suzuki at Hale Common. The three-week scheme is due to start on 21st September 2026.

What the work involves
As part of the project, hard standings and a footway will be created at the bus stops on both sides of the road. A tactile crossing point will also be installed to help pedestrians move safely between the two improved stops.

During this phase, the work will be carried out under temporary traffic lights.

Part of the A3056 Safer Roads Fund
The improvements are the latest to be delivered using Department for Transport funding secured by the Isle of Wight Council, as part of the A3056 Safer Roads Fund.

The first phase of the scheme is seeing bus stops in Arreton upgraded.

Why there’s no road closure this time
An Island Roads spokesperson said,

“We would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while these important upgrades are being delivered.

“Unlike the works at Arreton, the width of the road at Hale Common means we can carry out the improvements under temporary traffic lights rather than a full closure. We hope this will keep disruption to a minimum for the travelling public.”
