We all have a role to play in safety education to help save lives. RNLI is urging the public to follow potentially lifesaving advice if they find themselves in trouble after falling into cold water.
The RNLI are seeking to move the lifeguard station on Sandown Beach and place it in a permanent position to save costs of removing and returning it each year.
The yacht, with five people aboard, had gone hard aground at the entrance of Beaulieu River when, thanks the gravitational pull of the moon, there was an exceptionally low tide.
As well as the Bembridge and Cowes lifeboats, the marina line-up included craft from Hayling Island, Portsmouth, Calshot, Lymington, Gosport and Ryde and members of the Freshwater and Sandown stations arrived by road.
Run in conjunction with Bembridge Harbour Authority, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s (MCA) beach supervisors training course was the first of its kind on the Island.
