Isle of Wight Festival: The Horrors, Black Lips, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and More

“Best line up of the summer! The Isle of Wight Festival is one festival that I really look forward to and it’s a really great opportunity to pick the bands I love.” So says Tim Burgess, frontman of The Charlatans who is curating the Sunday lineup in the Big Top at the Isle of Wight Festival next month.

Isle of Wight Festival: The Horrors, Black Lips, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and MoreJohn Giddings made a very wise move putting Burgess in charge of the lineup in the Big Top on Sunday. It’s post punk and indie pop all the way for Burgess who has masterminded a line-up that’s sure to have Rob Da Bank hanging out in the Big Top all day (we know how much he loves his punk and indie).

The Charlatans and Killing Joke have already been announced and joining the fray will be Southend-on-Sea garage rockers The Horrors, ‘dirty psychedelic flower punks’ Black Lips get in on the fun and squeezing themselves in during their very busy year of touring, New York four piece The Pains of Being Pure at Heart (pictured) aim to have the audience blissed out with their gorgeous melodic pop.

More shoe gazing in store for us when Hatcham Social take to the stage. Burgess reckons they are ‘a wonderful pop group with the coolest drummer’. We concur.

S.C.U.M (pictured right) describe their music as Industrial/Visual/Melodramatic Popular Song. On certain tracks, Tom’s vocals are hauntingly similar to the late, great Ian Curtis, so we’ll definitely be checking them out live on the Sunday.

But it doesn’t stop there, Burgess really has pulled together an incredible lineup adding the fresh-faced female four-piece, Poppy and the Jezebels to the list.

Four young visionaries and star-gazers, Dance for Burgess will kick the day off in the Big Top with their precise artistic dialog and fitting name to the day’s curator, Tim Burgess.

In between the live acts Burgess is joined by Rhys Webb (of the Horrors) for a DJ Set packed with a selection of their favourite tracks.

John Giddings is pretty pleased with Burgess’ choice of lineup saying
“We are really excited to have someone of Tim’s calibre to curate the Big Top. He has been an Isle of Wight Festival supporter since we restarted the event and we are proud to have him involved, I’m sure he will bring a sparkle to the Sunday-bring it on!”
