This morning the route for the Olympic Torch visit to the Isle of Wight has been announced.

Isle of Wight Olympic Torch Route AnnouncedIf it’s something that you want to see, mark Saturday 14 July in your diary.

Leaving Lymington on Saturday, 14 July, the torch will do a mini tour of the Island passing through the following places

  • Totland
  • Yarmouth
  • Carisbrooke
  • Newport
  • East Cowes

Heading over to Southampton for the evening celebration there.

With the routes selected – arriving from Lymington, returning to Southampton, it looks like both of the Island’s ferry companies will be used. Only HoverTravel not getting a chance to transport it.

Background
When the main route was announced back in May this year, some on the Island were outraged that the Olympic Torch wasn’t going to be an overnight stay here, especially as many other UK Islands – the Isle of Man; Guernsey; Jersey; Shetland; Orkney and the Isle of Lewis – were hosting evening events.

MP Andrew Turner acted quickly, contacting Lord Coe’s office, receiving a “firm assurances that the Island will be included in the tour”.

VB exposure: Questions still unanswered
In July, VB published an investigation by Retired Hack exposing the lack of effort the council put into having the torch come to the Island.

Questions to the council raised by that article remain unanswered since 23 July despite re-prompting.
