This from Hans Bromwich, Cowes. Ed

I am totally flabbergasted. Have we ever had a more stupid government than this present one? Are the Tories really now going to kill the goose that lays the golden egg with a full frontal attack on arts and humanities subjects in our universities?

The UK produces some of the best creative talent in the world, music, fashion, design, architecture, you name it.

We may not nurture, value and fully capitalise on this creative talent ourselves, but look around the World and you will discover many of those who trained in some of our best Universities, like the Royal College of Art, head up companies, lead departments, and are key creative contributors in many, many successful organisations globally.

A need for analytical skills
And why of all subjects is philosophy on the list of so called, ‘Mickey Mouse’ degrees?

Aren’t those with the ability to analyse and think going to be crucial if we are ever going to find our way out of the present global and national mess that we have inherited?

How to avoid being held to account
I suppose, when you have disinvested and spectacularly failed on nearly every front, with policies that have resulted in a decade long stagnant economy, then the very last thing you want are people with the education and intellect to hold you to account.

We are living through truly bizarre times. It seems to me that whenever you hear the latest political catch phrase, like ‘levelling up’, if you believe the exact opposite, then you are probably much closer to the truth, yet as a nation and people we seem to lap-up politicians’ spin, gaslighting and the plethora of falsehoods.

Think about who you vote for
It really is now time to take a good hard look at our politicians, and calmly assess what they have actually achieved.

If we continue to blindly re-elect them, then we really have no one else to blame but ourselves for the decaying times many in our communities are living through.
