The Shute Newchurch

Letter: The Shute has become an autobahn, day and night. It’s time to stop this madness

OnTheWight always welcomes a Letter to the Editor to share with our readers – unsurprisingly they don’t always reflect the views of this publication. If you have something you’d like to share, get in touch and of course, your considered comments are welcome below.

This from a resident in The Shute, Newchurch. Ed

I’m contacting you because of a terrible car speeding problem on The Shute in Newchurch.

This has been going on for years now and got worse when a 20mph limit got introduced.

Hit by overtaking car
The last straw was last night when I was involved in a car accident in front of my own property. I was indicating and changing lane and pull over to park my car on the drive and a car behind me suddenly took over, not only breaching the 20mph limit, but smashing the side of my car.

My life was at risk in front of my own property in a 20mph zone! This is ridiculous.

An exact same episode happened to me six months ago. Back then I was lucky not to have been hit like this time.

It’s time to stop this madness
The Shute has become an autobahn, day and night.

Any kind of vehicle size and loudness pass through the village at any speed they feel like. It’s time to stop this madness.

Why is no-one helping?
If this can’t be enforced we need at least a means for deterring any speeding attempt.

Nobody seems to be willing to help. If this was happening in front of their house they’d jump all over the place to solve the problem.

Residents hostage to reckless and inconsiderate drivers
The residents on The Shute are hostage to reckless and inconsiderate drivers for so long now that it’s time to act on it. I’ve reported this episode to the police.

Ineptitude of all parties involved
I’m now going to contact all local press to highlight this fact and bring up the ineptitude (yes, when somebody’s life is at stake, this is ineptitude) of all parties involved (the police, the Council and the local Parish) to not being able to solve this matter.

Please highlight this problem in your newspaper. Everyone has to feel ashamed of their (non) actions.
