Standen Avenue residents have formed the Camp Hill Community Action Group (CHCAG) and asked the Isle of Wight Council to provide ‘basic safety measures’ in the area
The Isle of Wight council question the briefing notes presented by People Powered CIC, who say their information "is absolutely not selective", adding that it stands on its own and is central to the question of whether or not traffic forecasts for St Mary’s junction are realistic.
It’s been revealed that the Isle of Wight council will be forcing drivers around a 3.5 mile diversion through Coppins Bridge, past other congested areas and small streets in Newport for at least five weeks. (This is only the first part of the year and a quarter work on St Mary’s roundabout.) Here are the details.
The 2008 Newport traffic model predicted growth of 26% between 2007-2020, but People Powered CIC say traffic actually decreased by 1% between 2007-2018. They argue this (and more) justifies a pause and re-evaluation of the scheme planned for St Mary's Roundabout.
The 18 votes in favour were all the members of the ruling Conservative group present, except for Cllr Tyndall who abstained and Cllr Matthew Price (Newport North), who last week led a call for works to be halted.
Two requests for a public briefing have been refused by the Isle of Wight council and this week Parish councillors voted overwhelmingly for impending St Mary's Junction improvements to be be halted.
