Sorrel Nation releases her version of Who Knows Where the Time Goes on 21st August 2026.
The folk-Americana singer-songwriter lives in Ryde and first sang the Sandy Denny song at Fairport’s Cropredy Convention in 2022.
It arrives as the second single from her album Creeping Thyme, which follows on 23rd October 2026.
A fire, a cup of tea and a room of Sandy Denny fans
Sorrel Nation traces the whole thing back to one afternoon at The Magic Teapot Music Venue. She says,
“My story and love of ‘Who Knows Where the Time Goes’ began in 2022 at Fairport’s Cropredy Convention, when I first sang this timeless classic at The Magic Teapot Music Venue.
“I’ll never forget that moment: standing beside the fire on a 35-degree day, cup of tea in hand, singing to a room full of Sandy Denny fans and seeing the smiles on their faces. It was there that I truly fell in love with the song.”
Four years of it since, night after night. She says,
“It stayed with me long after that performance and has become a defining part of my career over the past four years. It has travelled with me every evening on tour, continuing to resonate with audiences and revealing new emotions every time I sing it. Some songs never lose their magic, and for me, this is one of them.”
A place in the People’s History
The recording follows an invitation to contribute to Sandy Denny: A People’s History, which Sandy Denny’s daughter, Georgia Rose Lucas, compiled.
The book gathers more than 200 memories from people who saw Sandy Denny perform, met her or came to her work later.
Richard Thompson, Rufus Wainwright, Mary Black, Barbara Dickson, Linda Thompson, Simon Nicol, Dave Pegg, Joe Boyd, Joan As Policewoman, Richard Digance and Iain Matthews also contributed.
Her publicists say the invitation reflects the standing Sorrel Nation has built within the folk community.
Before the album
The first single from Creeping Thyme, Ran Jonny Ran, came out earlier this year.
Americana UK called it “a captivating example of Sorrel Nation’s fine song craft”.
Her debut album Lost En Route preceded it.
Sandy Denny wrote Who Knows Where the Time Goes more than half a century ago, and it has since been recorded by Judy Collins, Nina Simone and Fairport Convention among many others.
Sorrel Nation’s version is released on 21st August 2026, with Creeping Thyme following on 23rd October 2026.
