Shide Skate Ramp by Ian Jackman Read

Shout out for your memories, photos and videos of the Shide Ramp

Back in 1987 when there was nothing to skate on the Isle of Wight, Ian Jackman Read and a few of his friends decided to build a half pipe in a friend’s field in Shide.

Ian says,

“After a grant from the Princes Trust and a little help from some friends it turned into a beast of a thing, some saying it was the best in Europe!”

Building an archive
Some 34 years later and Ian is building again, but this time it’s an archive of photos and videos of the Shide Ramp.

He’s started sharing some of the content to a Facebook Group, but plans to gather it all on a Website. Here are just a couple of examples of what he’s got so far.

Share your memories
If you were active back in the day and think you might have some video or photos, dig deep and see what you can find.

Ian would love for you to share them, and your memories of the Shide Ramp. Email them over to [email protected] and we’ll be updating here about his plans in the near future.
