A local cleaning company has been awarded a contract from the Isle of Wight Council to clean and maintain the local authority’s 41 public toilets.
Top Mops, which is based in Sandown and last year stepped in to take over cleaning of the conveniences when firm Fountains went into administration, has won a three year contract, starting from the end of March.
Set rates for town and parish councils
As part of the contract, town and parish councils can also ask Top Mops to clean any public conveniences they run for set rates.
George Brown, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member responsible for the economy said he was happy an Island based firm won the contract. He said; “The contract has been awarded following a rigorous competitive process which also involved Mainland based firms. It is good to know that local companies such as Top Mops can put together very competitive bids to secure work from the council.
“Being an Isle of Wight company means local people will benefit from secured employment. We are always looking to find ways to work with other organisations to provide services and I hope that the town and parish councils will take advantage of the agreement we have put in place which enables them to use Top Mops if they wish. This will no doubt help when they plan their annual budgets.”
High quality of service
Mark Tutty, managing director at Top Mops said; “We are delighted to have secured this contract and it is pleasing that we were able to compete to secure such an important contract.
“We were awarded it because the tender we submitted was not only competitively priced but because the quality of service we offered was very high and we are delighted to be continuing to work with the Isle of Wight Council.”
Securing five jobs, adding four
The firm says the contract will secure five jobs, with an additional four to be created during the summer months. The company, which began in 1989, will also invest in new equipment, including machinery, specifically for cleaning the conveniences.
The three year cleaning contract officially begins from 26 March, with an option to extend for a further two years.
