Town Councillors: Time Given Freely

Time Given FreelyWe just wanted to write a quick post about the Ventnor Town Council … and indeed all other councillors around the Island and the UK, who freely give their time to their local town or parish council.

This might appear a little at odds to some of the reporting about recent VTC decisions, but researching and reporting facts doesn’t mean we don’t admire that each of the elected councillors gives their time freely. (FYI – IW councillors are paid for their roles).

The time given is not only that spent attending the biweekly evening meetings, but also being at the end of a phone or email when people in their area have issues that they want to discuss. Taken seriously, it can be quite an undertaking.

It’s also worth pointing out that when councillors are making decisions for the public good, it’s right that the people that they represent should have their point of view listened to and accounted for. Who knows, there’s even the potentially that points raised may not have not been considered previously.
