Vectis Hall: Ryde Town Council sets the record straight

Ryde Town Council share this latest news about Vectis Hall. Ed

When Ryde Town Council bought Vectis Hall in 2020, the intention was straightforward: restore the building and secure its future for the community. That goal has never changed.

Why the plan had to change
What has changed is the funding landscape. Covid-19 reshaped grant programmes, shifted priorities and made the kind of funding the Council had hoped to attract much harder to secure. The Council has worked hard to find a path forward – but has had to be honest with itself about what is and isn’t achievable.

The composition of the Council has also changed since 2020. New councillors bring new perspectives and different priorities for how public money should be spent and where the Council can make the biggest difference for Ryde residents. The funding commitments that once seemed possible for a project of this scale no longer align with where the Council needs to focus its resources.

The decision to sell
On 12th May 2026, Full Council decided to sell Vectis Hall by public auction.

A brief pause – and why
The sale itself had to be paused briefly to allow the Council to deal with matters that required urgent legal attention. The Council took advice, acted on it and is satisfied that the right steps were taken to protect the Council’s position.

At last night’s (Tuesday) Full Council meeting, councillors approved the Town Clerk’s decision to delay, with one abstention.

What happens next
When Vectis Hall goes to auction, the Council hopes it will attract buyers who share its ambition for the building. Vectis Hall deserves more than just new ownership – it deserves a real future.

We encourage anyone interested to come forward and contact Clive Emson auctioneers who are marketing the property.
