Vernon Square’s annual summer garden party returns to Ryde this month

Rescued from dereliction 40 years ago, it is now a green gem in the heart of Ryde. And popular public space Vernon Square garden will host its annual Summer Garden Party on Saturday 27th June 2026, starting at 2pm. Gates open 1.30pm.

Live music, lemonade and strawberries: what to expect on the day
Vectis Brass, The RUG Band and, new this year, The Watch will be performing.

There will be a range of alcoholic drinks, plus tea and coffee, home-made lemonade, an array of home-made cakes, strawberries and Chantilly cream.

From neglect to green gem: the story of Vernon Square
Back in 1986 the garden, which had fallen into disrepair, was purchased by the Vernon Square Preservation Society. Volunteers from the organisation, now the Vernon Square Conservation Society, have nurtured the unique area, the only one of its kind on the Island, ever since.

They have planted and cared for its lawns, flowers, trees and shrubs, for the enjoyment of the public, giving all their time free of charge. A prominent volunteer is Mike Fitt OBE, an eminent horticulturalist.

Raffle prizes and a well-stocked book stall round off the afternoon
A highlight of the garden party will be a super prize raffle, with prizes donated by local Island businesses. There will also be a used book stall where you can stock up on reading material.

As a not-for-profit community organisation, this event is the Society’s major fund raiser of the year and as always, all funds raised are used solely to keep Vernon Square Gardens maintained and open for all visitors to enjoy.

Everything you need to know before you go
Entry is £3 for adults. For accompanied children entry is free of charge. Vernon Square Conservation Society members also have free entry.

Please note the Garden is a dog free zone, Assistance dogs permitted.
