The Island Transport and Infrastructure Forum held its latest meeting on Monday 8th June, bringing together representatives from the Island’s ferry, bus and rail operators, Island Roads, Visit Isle of Wight, the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, and Isle of Wight Council.
The meeting focused on practical collaboration and longer-term planning for a more resilient Island transport network. Members reviewed progress on joint working around roadworks, disruption communications, young people’s travel, integrated ticketing and engagement with transport users.
Highway authorities committee welcomed
A positive update was received on the new Isle of Wight Highway Authorities and Utilities Committee, which is bringing together the council, Island Roads and utility companies to improve coordination and reduce avoidable disruption.
Looking to the future
The Forum also began a forward-looking discussion on the Island’s future transport system, including how data, technology, public transport, active travel, water-based transport and stronger infrastructure planning could help improve capacity, connectivity and resilience.
Next steps
Members agreed to continue developing practical ideas to support the Island Transport implementation plan and to engage with the new council administration and the Hampshire and Solent County Combined Authority.
The next Forum meeting will take place on 21st September 2026.
