Awards evening for members of The Vectis Corps of Drums Marching Band

Recently, The Vectis Corps of Drums Marching Band was able to hold their first annual presentation evening since 2019.

The evening started with music from the band before the awards were handed out. Every member was given a certificate of recognition for their service to the band and there were awards presented to members of each section and long service awards.

Drum Section award
The recipient of the Drum Section award was Lucas Stevens for his progress and the effort he puts into practice every week.

There were two winners of the cymbal section award, Millie Smith and Indiana Mackenzie. The two girls received the award for their progress and enthusiasm learning the cymbals since joining the band.

Tuned percussion
For the tuned percussion (glockenspiel) section the award was presented to Holly Deacon for her dedication to the band and the glockenspiel section.

Wind Section
The Wind Section award was presented to Dave Lewis who stepped up as Deputy Musical Director and has helped run the wind section alongside the musical director.

Bandmaster award
There was also the Bandmaster award which was presented to Mike Early, a community award which was presented to Jennie Thompson and the Royal British Legion (Newport and Carisbrooke Branch) award which was presented to Joseph Williams.

Long Service awards
There was also five and ten years Long Service awards presented to members for their service to the band.

The five year service awards were presented to Jack Higgs, Jaimie-Leigh Hall, Lucas Stevens, Matthew Seal, Troy Chambers and Lou Chambers.

Ten Year service awards were presented to Billy Williams, Daniel Martin, Hayley Williams, Lisa Martin and Jill Woodford.

30th Anniversary
The evening finished with some more music followed by refreshments.

2022 marks the bands 30th Anniversary and they will be back out and about participating in events across the Island.
