Fuel berth 2025

Cowes Harbour Commission addresses marine fuel shortage ahead of summer weekend

As we head into a beautiful summer weekend on the water, we want to help you make the most of it. On this occasion, we advise all boaters to ensure they have sufficient fuel in their tanks before setting out to enjoy the stunning waters around Cowes and the Isle of Wight.

Cowes Harbour Commission (CHC) and Lallows wish to provide a joint update to our customers regarding the current Island-wide shortage of marine fuels.

Island-wide shortage of marine fuels
There is currently an Island-wide shortage of marine fuels affecting all suppliers, due to challenges in sourcing fuel and transporting it across to the Island. This has led to intermittent availability of both diesel and petrol over the past week, with some promised deliveries being cancelled at short notice.

Both CHC and Lallows are working closely with suppliers to secure deliveries and are actively exploring alternative options to improve resilience and reduce the risk of future disruptions. We appreciate the understanding of our customers as we work to restore full fuel availability.

We are pleased to confirm that:

  • Cowes Harbour Commission has received a delivery of diesel today and will open the CHC fuel berth for diesel sales only from this afternoon.
  • Lallows currently has diesel available for customers.
  • Petrol remains in short supply; however, CHC is expecting a delivery of 8,000 litres on the morning of Monday 18 August (from the 15,000 litres ordered), with the remainder to follow as soon as possible.
  • Lallows expecting a delivery Monday 18th August.

We understand how important uninterrupted fuel supply is, particularly during the summer boating season, and both CHC and Lallows are committed to keeping our customers informed with regular updates.

We thank you for your patience and look forward to seeing you out on the water enjoying the spectacular conditions Cowes and the Solent have to offer.
