The Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra welcomes the return of marvellously talented violinist Charlie Lovell-Jones on Saturday 16th May 2026.
A celebrated soloist returns
Charlie will perform the ever-popular Concerto no.1 by Max Bruch, a work known for its soaring melodies and deep emotional expressiveness. Charlie is an international soloist praised for his singing intensity of tone.
He is the acclaimed concertmaster of the superb Sinfonia of London, with whom he has recently recorded the Walton and Ruth Gipps concertos.
An ambitious programme
The concert opens with a brilliant showcase for the orchestra, the dazzling ‘Carnival Romain’, composed by Hector Berlioz. ‘Nocturne’, composed by Gerald Finzi then follows, a piece of luminous beauty inspired by a walk under the stars.
Sibelius closes the evening
In the second half the orchestra will perform Symphony no.1 by Jean Sibelius, a fabulous work that creates a brooding Nordic atmosphere and an evocation of Finland’s forests and lakes.
Supporting young musicians
The evening begins at 7.15pm at the Medina Theatre and the orchestra is delighted to be supporting The Southampton and Isle of Wight Music Trust, Middleton Bursary Scheme at all its concerts this season. The scheme provides financial support to young musicians facing challenging circumstances.
Sponsorship from Wightlink is invaluable in helping the orchestra maintain the high quality of their concerts from year to year.
Book tickets via the Medina Theatre website.
