Former cattery to be demolished to make way for new homes

New plans have been submitted to build houses on the site of a former popular cattery in Wootton.

Now closed, the Reynards cattery would be demolished, along with the existing house, to make way for ten new houses and bungalows.

Permission granted for eight homes
Permission was previously granted for eight homes on the site, on Palmers Road, in August 2019, but work has not been started as it was submitted as a speculative proposal.

The permission does still have a year before the rights expire but local developer, Solent Homes has taken over the part brown and part greenfield site and looks to increase the number.

Success of Lushington Hill development
In planning documents, agents Andrew White Planning Consultancy said the company’s nearby Lushington Hill development is almost at completion and because it has been so well received, it decided to purchase Reynards.

Planning agents say the addition of two extra homes is a further benefit, as it will mean a financial contribution towards affordable housing would be made.

The ten homes proposed would be split between houses and bungalows, with two two-bed and eight three-bed properties.

High-quality homes to optimise the land
The planning agents say the scheme is an opportunity for a developer  with a proven track record of developing high-quality homes to optimise the land.

The site on Palmers Road will be opposite part of the approved development of 40 dwellings at Palmers Farm, which was granted in October 2019.

Agents say they are mindful the dynamic of the surrounding area is subject to change but are looking to strike a balance between optimising the full potential of the land while ensuring the density and layout would complement the area’s character.
