Walk in the footsteps of history with Stories Underfoot.
StoneCrabs Theatre invites you to join a series of immersive promenade walks that uncover the hidden LGBTQ+ heritage of the Isle of Wight.
Part tour, part performance, these walks shine a light on the Island’s untold history.
Each walk has been produced by the Island’s creative community. Using inspiration from the Island’s history, this series aims to encourage people to look at their local area in new ways and to feel a deeper connection with it.
The walks include a Whisper System: audio headsets which allow the audience to easily follow the performance.

Virginia Woolf in Freshwater
Date: Sunday 17 May | Time: 10:30am
Start: Albion Hotel’s Wishing Well
Join one of English literature’s most enduring and ground-breaking female writers, Virginia Woolf, on a walk around Freshwater.
Woolf will take you on a memory-laden journey, reminiscing on the women who influenced her, including Julia Margaret Cameron, her photographer aunt who lived at Dimbola Lodge.

Oscar Wilde in Ryde
Date: Sunday 14 June | Time: 10:30am
Start: Ryde Town Hall
Curious islanders are invited to accompany the celebrated playwright, Oscar Wilde, on a guided walk in his former footsteps in Ryde.
In 1884, Wilde delivered a lecture ‘On Dress’ at Ryde Town Hall as part of an international speaking tour. Much of what he had to say speaks to us today. 142 years on, the spectre of Wilde still haunts Union Street.
