I Love Wight: We Love You

Congratulations to Islander Emma Harris, who for her final major project at the University for the Creative Arts has created a brand new Website showcasing Isle of Wight talent.

I Love Wight Illustration‘I Love Wight’ provides a fantastic flavour of the burgeoning creative talent on the Island in a site that is well designed, clean and easy to use.

Emma’s managed to pull together a very competent team in the guise of writers, Maria Bell, Ursula Dewey, Jody Neil Ruth, Kevin Amidzadeh and music correspondent, Charlie Harris.

The hugely talented Oscar May is I Love Wight’s official photographer and illustrator Katy Rose is responsible for the clean fresh illustrations you see across the site.

It’s all about the style, baby
A combination of articles, videos, interviews and music samples, the site blows the trumpet for style leaders from the Island, with innovative filmmakers Grace Brennan and Emma Harris showcasing their latest short film. The Rapanui boys and Ursula Dewey get similar treatment after a chinwag with Emma and Maria.

Diverse musical genres
Wight Sound takes you through an eclectic range of musical genres with dance music producer Toby Godwin, showgazing lovelies The Shutes, James Thorpe who has a passion for vintage musical instruments, one of the Island’s biggest Hip Hop acts Born Ina Barn, Andy Cooke from Fighting Fiction and music writer Charlie Harris all featured.

Creative collective
As we all know, the Island is rife with artists and artisans. I Love Wight features six young artists including illustrator Tom Troy, Katy Rose Thorogood (who’s responsible for all the lovely illustrations on the site), graphic designers Richard Gray and Jamie Geoghegan, model making and stop motion animator Yossel Simpson Little and colourful artist Jamie Richards.

Looking a little further ‘outside the box’, I Love Wight also gives us an insight into the lives of professional dancer Kelly Jo Brougham and comedian Hannah George. Both really interesting stories and ladies well worth keeping a close eye on.

Spreading the love
Being impressed with what Emma was trying to achieve, and having met up with her for an interview about the story behind VB, we offered to help out with site hosting and tackling what can be the joy and pain of dealing with WordPress, the platform the site is built on.

Although the site was created for the purpose of Emma’s degree course, she’s keen to continue to develop and evolve it and would love to hear nominations for other talented Islanders to be featured.

Well done to Emma and all involved for an excellent site that we’ll be popping back to on a regular basis.
