Isle of Wight residents rally to fund Judicial Review of West Acre Park development decision

Following the latest update on the 472-home West Acre Park development on Westridge Farm in Ryde, as revealed by News OnTheWight last week, Isle of Wight residents have rallied behind the funding appeal to take the decision to Judicial Review.

There have been a whopping 594 pledges to get the CrowdJustice appeal past the £25,000 milestone and at time of publishing, £25,170 has been raised.

Councillor Michael Lilley, who has been an outspoken opponent to the development on former farmland, explained,

“The target of £39,300 is now only £14,130 away, which means we are 64 per cent there. We have until 15th September 2023 to hit the target and we believe together we can do this and we need your continuation of support and belief in getting there!”

The first stage of the process to get the case to court by 15th September 2023 starts on or around 25th August 2023.

Councillor Lilley added,

“Your financial support is enabling the Save Westridge Farmland Legal Team to do this. And what a strong case you have as it’s the people’s (Islanders) case against the wealth of a local authority, a landowner and developer.

“It is happening and you are making it happen; the people/residents are not sitting down and being walked over, we are standing up and saying ‘No! We care about our environment, the climate change crisis, preserving nature and protected species, and more importantly we care about social justice and human rights!'”

Councillor Lilley explained the many ways of reaching the new target of £14,130 as follows:

  • 594 pledges of £24 = £14,130
  • 283 pledges of £50 = £14,130
  • 142 pledges of £100 = £14,130
  • 71 pledges of £200 = £14,130
  • 29 pledges of £500 = £14,130
  • 15 pledges of £1000 = £14,130

If you wish to help the campaigners reach their target you can donate via the CrowdJustice Website.
